National Counterpart Team Meeting 1

Summary:The first National Counterpart Team meeting (NCT 1) was held on 24 and 25 September 2003 in Tunis, Tunisia. It was the first event to bring together the National Counterparts of the MEDA countries, represented by their National Coordinators, the Main Contract, the Infrastructure Contract and the European Commission.
The main objectives of the NCT 1 meeting were:
to present the objectives, planned activities, and organisational structure of the Main Contract and of the Infrastructure Contract; to enable all participants to get to know each other and set the stage for a successful cooperation and exchange of ideas.
During the first day of the event, presentations were given and discussed in a plenary audience. These covered issues such as:
- a summary of the main EU policies regarding regional cooperation and transport sector reform;
- an assessment of the current status and outlook for the transport sector in the MEDA region;
- the work plan and procedures for preparing the Diagnostic Study.
The second day was devoted to meetings of the regional working groups. The official reception gave the participants the chance to meet decision makers from the transport sector in Tunisia.
