Summary:

The study tour on port reform took place in Madrid and Valencia, Spain, on 14-18 November 2005. The event brought together over 30 officials from public administrations and port authorities from the 12 MEDA countries.

The first two days of the study tour in Madrid focused on the role of the Spanish central government and of regional authorities in the implementation of port modernisation and restructuring programmes.

The last three days of the technical visit in Valencia highlighted the experience of the Port of Valencia in terms of port reform and development.

The interactive format of the visit enabled participants to discuss directly with officials from central government bodies, port authorities, municipalities, shipping companies, port services and terminal operators, freight forwarders, logistics providers, trade unions, and investors, etc.
The study tour was organised with the support of the Port of Valencia Authority and Puertos del Estado .
