Summary
Within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Transport Forum, the 4th meeting of the Maritime Safety Working Group, which is also the SAFEMED Project Advisory Committee, is being held in Brussels on the 7 February 2008.
The main objective of the meeting is to discuss the progress of the MEDA regional project "Euromed Co-operation on Maritime Safety and Prevention of Pollution from Ships - SAFEMED" and to provide an update on the latest developments in EuroMed co-operation in the field of maritime safety and security.
All SAFEMED Project national contact points have been invited to participate in this meeting together with representatives from the European Union Member States, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and the Centre d'Etudes des Transports pour la Méditerranée Occidentale (CETMO). The Resident EU Twinning Projects Representatives in Egypt, Morocco and Turkey were also invited to attend the meeting.

Summary:
The Third Meeting of the Maritime Safety Sub-Group of the Euromed Maritime Transport Working Group, which is also the SAFEMED Project Advisory Committee, was held in Brussels on the 18 December 2006. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Jacques de Dieu, Deputy Head of Unit for Maritime Safety in the DG/TREN.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the progress of the MEDA regional project SAFEMED being implemented by REMPEC. During the meeting, the European Commission (EC) informed the participants of the latest developments in Euromed transport cooperation and the EU maritime safety policy. REMPEC delivered a presentation on the project activities implemented in 2006 and on the planned programme for 2007. EMSA presented its mandate and activities and referred to its role in the implementation of SAFEMED.
Fourteen officials from twelve Euro Mediterranean Partners took part in the meeting, as well as representatives from the EC, IMO, EMSA, CETMO and REMPEC.
