Location: Cargèse, France
Dates: 24-25/09/2004

Programme (425Kb)

Summary:

Experts on Mediterranean transport issues from different regions of the Western Mediterranean coast took part in this seminar organised by the 'euro-méditerrànea' association and the Institute for Scientific Studies of Cargèse in the framework of the Fourth International Autumn University 'Corsica-Europe-Maghreb-Mediterranean'.

The ongoing MEDA transport projects Reg-Med and Destin as well as the Euromed Transport Project were presented during the seminar. In his presentation, Ralf Kaltheier, Project Director, Main Contract, focused on the activities of the Euromed Transport Project within the Regional Transport Action Plan and sought to identify new partnerships for the implementation of additional regional / bilateral transport activities outside the framework of the project.

Several EU-Mediterranean decentralised cooperation projects developed within the Interreg III-b programme were also presented:

'Port Net Med Plus': Over 10 French, Italian and Tunisian local authorities take part in this project (including Sicily and Corsica) which aims to develop a coordinated maritime and port strategy for the regions and ports of the Western Mediterranean by establishing an information network (observatory) and through promotion and dissemination activities.
'Reports MEDOCC': This regional project is primarily oriented towards the development of Short Sea Shipping (SSS) in the Western Mediterranean, data exchange systems and training measures in the field of maritime security.

The working contacts made during this seminar avoid the need for any further coordination efforts between various ongoing EU-funded initiatives.
