Mr Salim Hamdane

Algeria's National Coordinator Salim Hamdane has been involved with the EuroMed project since 2004. His areas of expertise, which include Maritime and Harbour Regulation and the environment, are more than backed-up by his previous posts, which include projects for the Algerian Public Labour Ministry, and studies for the Environment Ministry on biodiversity and climate change.

Previously a Public Works State Engineer, Hamdane speaks French, Arabic, German and English and has proved instrumental in the transport sector’s five-year programme 2004-2009.

Involvement and experience of Algeria within the project ?
C'est très important de pouvoir se situer, comme un pays, à quel niveau de technologie il est, d'autant plus que l'objectif de ce projet-là est d'essayer de mettre en commun, de mettre à niveau tous les réseaux... Video [wmv] (3Mb)

Best lessons learned with the project ?
Le projet a permis de lier un réseau de relations avec des collègues et des homologues qui entreprennent pour la plupart les mêmes fonctions que moi, que ce soit dans les pays MEDA ou dans les pays européens et de permettre en dehors et même après ce projet-là d'entretenir des relations privilégiées... Current projects related to transport policy reform or 
to transport infrastructure improvement ?
Dans les chemins de fer, depuis l'année dernière, nous avons séparé la pension exploitation de la pension réseau, c'est-à-dire gestion, maintenance et réalisation des infrastructures ferroviaires et c'est un pas très important... Video [wmv] (3Mb)
