Regional Transport Action Plan (RTAP) Review-Workshops with National Coordinators, 5th National Counterpart Team Meeting and 8th EuroMed Transport Forum

To sustain the participatory process in the establishment of the RTAP, a series of workshops were organised with all MEDA Partners. The workshops focused mainly on the political and institutional dimension of the RTAP.

Four consecutive workshops were held in Tunis during June, July and August 2006. In addition, the 5^th National Counterpart Team Meeting was held in Brussels in May 2007 to discuss the draft RTAP.

The workshops were organised around the eight main themes of the RTAP: the first was dedicated to the “Reform of Central Transport Administration” and “Road Transport"; the second to “Maritime Transport and Ports" and Transport Finance and Funding”, the third to “Civil Aviation and Airports" and “Multimodal and Intermodal Transport” and the last on “Rail Transport” and “Border Crossing”.

For each theme, EuroMed Transport Project Experts presented the policy and institutional actions envisaged in the field of awareness raising and consensus building, capacity building and the preparation and implementation of technical assistance and twinning programmes.

Participants were invited to review, discuss and comment on the various actions proposed. MEDA partners who could not attend the workshops were requested to send their comments and feedback by email.

All comments have been taken into consideration in the preparation of the final draft RTAP, which was discussed at the 5^th meeting of the National Counterparts, held in Brussels in May 2007.

The final RTAP was approved during the 8^th EuroMed Transport Forum, held in Brussels on 29^th and 30^th May 2007.

It is expected that the RTAP will be endorsed during a High Level Ministerial Forum, planned for late 2007.
