Summary:

The seventh meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Transport Forum was held in Brussels on 11 October 2005, at the level of high officials for transport.

Following introductory remarks and an overview of the project, the European Commission gave an update on the activities of the High-Level Group on the extension of the major trans-European transport axes to the neighbouring countries and regions.

The Euromed Transport Project presented the final version of the Blue Paper on Transport in the Mediterranean region forms the contribution of the Euromed Transport Forum to the Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Transport Ministers.

The members of the Forum reviewed the draft agenda of the ministerial conference, including the content of each session, and examined some of the issues that will be covered in the speeches and presentations given by the Transport Ministers.

The Forum participants reviewed the draft conclusions of the ministerial conference prepared by the Commission and proposed a number of modifications. The meeting ended with a discussion on the next steps for the Euromed Transport Project (policy workshops, studies, Regional Action Plan).

Following the meeting, further amendments to the ministerial conclusions were submitted by the representatives of the MEDA Partner Countries and the EU Member States (via the relevant working groups of the EU Council of Ministers).
