MEdiTerranean Introduction of GNSS Services (METIS)

The METIS project is managed by the Galileo Joint Undertaking through Euro-Med GNSS I project.

METIS Objective:
Supporting the Euro-Mediterranean policy and actions in favour of the GNSS  (EGNOS / GALILEO) services market in MEDA

METIS regions:
Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey

METIS duration:
30 Months (started mid of July 2006)

Total project cost: 2.50 M€ (100% funded), share:
- 49% EU
- 51% MEDA

METIS  Consortium composed by 5 partners, coordinated by Telespazio

METIS key activities:
- Development of a “GNSS Regional Plan”
- Running a programme of “Training & Awareness”
- Enabling “GNSS Service Demonstration” in the regions

METIS Morocco Master Training & Seminar

During this event the following GNSS topics will be covered:

• Land Transportation
• Galileo/EGNOS vs GPS & Augmented / Differential GPS
• Maritime Applications
• Galileo/EGNOS
• Legal issues / Standardization
• LBS Applications
• Aviation Applications

 
The Master Training has a twofold objective:

• To provide the necessary knowledge and background to setup the bases of a sustainable GNSS activity in the MEDA region
• To be a training for future trainers, since the participants will not only acquire the information and knowledge related to the addressed topics, but they will also learn how to transfer this knowledge to participants in the regional training to be organized in their respective country.

The one day Awareness Seminar will be held just after the training sessions. The goal of this seminar is to highlight by examples the different applications that have been developed based on EGNOS signals and to disseminate the results of the already performed activities within the METIS project.
