MEdiTerranean Introduction of GNSS Services
The METIS project is managed by the European GNSS Supervisory Authority - Euro-Med GNSS I Project .
METIS Objective:
Supporting the Euro-Mediterranean policy and actions in favour of the GNSS (EGNOS / GALILEO) services market in MEDA
METIS regions:
Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey
METIS duration:
42 Months (started on July 2006)
Total project cost: 2.50 M€ (100% funded), share:
- 49% EU
- 51% MEDA

Turksat and Telespazio hosted the METIS event “Exploiting EGNOS/Galileo services in MEDA”.
The European Commission (DG AIDCO and DG TREN) chaired the event.
40 persons attended the event, including stakeholders from the transport domain and the National Coordinators from 7 MEDA countries (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey).
During the event, the METIS team presented the results of the demonstrations experimenting the use of EGNOS in maritime and rail applications in Turkey, for personal mobility and eTourism applications in Morocco, and for researches in 5 MEDA countries (Israel, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Tunisia and Turkey).
The event also gave the occasion to share and discuss with the National Coordinators the final GNSS Regional Plan elaborated by METIS project, to prepare the introduction of EGNOS services in the MEDA area.
